Octopus Productivity Solutions

When I started the journey to running my own virtual assistance business close to a year ago, I began by taking a course. It was a bit scary – there are a vast number of online courses, and I really didn’t want to waste my money. It turned out to be a really good decision, and I’ve met a wonderful community of like-minded people. But I’ve noticed something, as I’ve worked alongside many people starting businesses. There are points at which people get stuck – whether it’s just a general slow down as I touched on, or due to personal challenges or a seemingly insurmountable pile of things to take care of. Of course, this isn’t just a business challenge, we get stuck in our personal lives as well.

And once we get stuck, the overthinking kicks in, and we start getting in our own way. We get confused over where to start. We  start to talk ourselves out of decisions we already made. We make mountains out of molehills.

I hit a wall in my business start up over my business name, of all things. I wanted it to perfectly reflect me and what I do – obviously an unattainable goal. I let myself stay stuck for weeks, and moved on to other projects, backburnering my business.  But here’s the thing – as soon as I stopped overthinking it, and – to misquote Nike – Just Did It – it happened. And truthfully, my first take was wrong and I spent two weeks dealing with bureaucracy to right it. But therein lies the lesson – get out of your own way, let yourself make the mistakes, and just do it.

And if you can’t unwind yourself to figure out where to get started, a short consultation can help clarify your next steps.
